Wednesday Morning

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Sweater and Toque Day here at Holy Redeemer. Students are encouraged to wear a warm sweater and their favourite winter hat! During our Language Arts Block, we explored an activity on the Smartboard which helped to deepen our understanding of effective ways to infer character traits when reading. We listened to a read aloud of The One and Only Ivan and brainstormed some of Ivan's character traits. Students had many insightful answers to share which included the following: patient, thoughtful and intelligent. Our class is turning our attention towards persuasive writing which tries to convince someone to do something or to act in a certain way. To begin our unit, we listened to a read aloud of ``Don`t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus`` which is a good example of a character trying to persuade another to let him to something that he would like to do. We then spent time exchanging books and reading in the Learning Commons. During Math, we reviewed how to solve problems which involve multiplying two-digit by one-digit numbers and explored how to solve algebraic equations. An example of a question we looked at: "write an equation for n reduced by 12." The answer being "n-12." Have a great evening!
